NBAD invests considerably in people development. There are a number of
actions Line Managers and individual learners can take to ensure a return on
this investment of time and resources and, of course, that the learner benefits
through enhanced skills, knowledge and performance. We aim for all learners
to understand:
- the business reason for attendance (if the program is classroom-based);
- what they need to do differently;
- how they are going to apply this new knowledge, skill or behavior to their role; and
- what support they will require to do this successfully.
Individuals can learn on or off the job:
- Examples of learning on the job include coaching with a line manager or
other colleagues, working on specific projects to learn new skills and
knowledge and shadowing team members. We also offer some courses
online via the NBAD intranet.
- Learning off the job is achieved primarily through classroom-based courses,
which may be offered internally through NBAD Academy, externally through
NBAD-approved vendors, or via the Education & Qualifications Assistance
Scheme.
We also offer the NBAD development Guide, which contains notes on effective
learning to build competencies required for all levels of roles across NBAD
divisions. This provides input into development planning sessions as part of
the Performance Reviews. A broad mix of development ideas are offered to
suit a range of learning styles: users are free to choose from these ideas, and
adapt them to suit themselves.
We also understand the importance of learning how to learn. We provide
access to an online questionnaire which helps users to develop their awareness
of their preferred ways of learning. They can then make best use of all of
the learning opportunities that are available to them, formally and informally.
Whatever your preferences for how you like to learn, the NBAD Academy can
accommodate everyone’s development in many, varied ways.
"I have attended three leadership courses at the academy; the knowledge
received has developed my leadership skills and self-awareness. Words can’t
express the values I have gained from the training. I strongly believe that NBAD
Academy is the gate for future leaders of NBAD”.
